Underwater Hockey

British Navy developed underwater hockey

In the 1950s, the British Navy developed underwater hockey to keep their divers fit and to strengthen their ability to move underwater effectively. Shortly after, the game came to Australia and has developed into a dynamic, competitive sport, played in over 40 countries. 1)

Players

There are 12 players on each team, 10 of which will play in any one match. 6 players are in the pool throughout the game, with 4 swap players on the side who can sub at any point. To shield the hand from the pool floor and the puck, the players wear large fins, a diving mask and snorkel, and a heavy glove made of latex. 2)
