Each actor who plays a zombie in Walking Dead goes through “zombie school” and learns how to move like a zombie.⁸⁾

Zombie makeup is classified into three levels: Hero, Midground, and Deep Background. Hero zombies are highlighted walkers that have been entirely transformed from head to toe. Midground zombies have their faces highlighted and shadowed, but they are not near enough to the camera to require complete makeup. Deep background zombies frequently wear masks and are solely intended to serve as a backdrop.⁹⁾

The first season was primarily shot in Atlanta, albeit it required extensive collaboration with the city to close streets and parks for filming.¹¹⁾

AMC CEO Josh Sapan indicated in September 2018 that they intend to continue The Walking Dead brand for another ten years, including new films and TV programs based on the original comic book series.¹³⁾

The show has received multiple nominations for accolades, including the Writers Guild of America Award for New Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.¹⁴⁾
