Sodom, formed in 1981, is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen. They have undergone many line-up changes, leaving bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper as the only permanent member. ¹⁾

Sodom has been referred to as one of the 'Big Four' of Teutonic thrash metal, along with Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard. While three of those bands (except Tankard) produced a sound that would affect the genres of death metal and black metal, the early music style of Sodom would have a greater impact than others on many late 1980s and early 1990s black metal bands. ²⁾
