Rammstein's name is taken from a fatal accident during an aviation expo at Ramstein Air Force Base. Their song with a similar title is additionally about this accident. The Ramstein aviation expo fiasco happened on Sunday, August 28, 1988, during the Flugtag '88 airshow at the US Ramstein Air Basenear the city of Kaiserslautern, West Germany. 2)
The line-up has remained unchanged throughout Rammstein's history. Till Lindemann, Richard Z. Kruspe, Paul H. Landers, Oliver “Ollie” Riedel, Christoph “Doom” Schneider and Christian “Flake” Lorenz have always been members of the band. 3)
In the years 1976-1979, Lindemann was a great swimmer who became junior vice-European champion. In 1988, Lindemann was to be a swimmer in the Olympics, yet endured a torn abdominal muscle, so couldn't partake. 4)
