Quentin Tarantino

Before Directing

Tarantino was not born to be the famed director that he is today, but his interest with cinema has lasted a long time. Before directing Hollywood's biggest films, he worked as a video shop clerk in Manhattan Beach, California, named Video Archives.1)

First Film

While many people are familiar with Tarantino's early works such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, few have heard about his debut feature. My Best Friend's Birthday, directed by Tarantino and Craig Hamann, was never finished but provides a look into Tarantino and Craig Hamann's promising filmmaking future.2)

Acting School

Tarantino is most recognized as a filmmaker, but he also studied acting at the James Best Theatre Company. While taking acting classes, he discovered that he preferred creating stories over performing them.3)

Fan Of Sergio Leone's Westerns

He is a fan of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. When Tarantino talks his favorite films of all time, he constantly mentions Sergio Leone's great western, and Leone's work has had a notable influence on Tarantino's own westerns Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.4)

KillBar

In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, there is a Quentin Tarantino-themed pub. “KillBar” has Uma Thurman from Kill Bill wall art and supposedly offers movie evenings when they screen Tarantino's movies.5)

10 Films?

For a filmmaker with as extensive a track record as Tarantino, you'd think he'd never stop. He has, however, stated that he intends to retire from directing after ten films. Given that Tarantino's ninth feature, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was released last year, he only has one more film planned.6)

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez has long been a buddy and partner of Tarantino's. Tarantino and Rodriguez collaborated on the 2007 double-feature Grindhouse, and Tarantino plays a significant role in Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn.7)

Cinema Freak

Since his first breaths, Quentin Tarantino has been immersed in the world of cinema. He was named after the character Quintin Asper from the western series Gunsmoke, played by Burt Reynolds.8)

Middle Name

Few people know that Quentin Tarantino has a middle name! Quentin Tarantino was born Quentin Jerome Tarantino, however he rarely uses his middle name.9)

Left Middle School

Tarantino walked out of middle school at the age of 15 to pursue acting, which led him to the director's chair.10)

Star Trek

He had intentions to helm a Star Trek picture, but these appear to have fallen through recently. The picture would have been R-rated, as is customary with Tarantino.11)

Kill Bill 3

While his Star Trek ideas may be shelved, there are other possibilities on the horizon. He appears to be planning a Kill Bill 3 sequel to his two-part Kill Bill action narrative.12)

Pulp Fiction Malibu

Tarantino's 1964 Chevelle Malibu was stolen in 1994 and recovered in 2013. In the film Pulp Fiction, John Travolta drove the automobile, but it was stolen from his driveway. It took police more than a decade to locate down the automobile, which was eventually returned to Tarantino.13)

Shared Universe

While Tarantino's oeuvre looks to be made up of separate films, they are all linked. All of his films are part of a connected universe, with characters and elements linking them.14)

Shared Universe With Others

His films are also linked to those of other directors. Sheriff Earl McGraw, played by Michael Parks, appears in Tarantino's Kill Bill and Death Proof, as well as Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn and Planet Terror.15)
