Two men, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, started out independently at the turn of the 20th century. Due to the changes in post-war German industry and the desire for some kind of integration, these men combined their activities, and the company Daimler-Benz was founded in 1926. 1)
The name Mercedes, contrary to popular belief, does not come from the name of the daughter of one of the two gentlemen. The only fact is that it is of Spanish origin and was borne by the daughter, but Emil Jellinek was passionate about automobiles. Jellinek was a customer of Daimler, and it was thanks to him that the name Mercedes was attached to cars and continues to be widely recognized today. 2)
