The resistance of Cactaceae Juss (cacti) to lack of water depends on the size of the plant. The larger the cactus the more surface area it has to store water. ¹⁾

Violet oil beetle (Meloe violaceus) is an insect of the beetle order. Female violet oil beetles have a disproportionately large abdomen. Violet oil beetle is slow to move and is protected by a poisonous, oily liquid that is poured out when threatened. Violet oil larvae attach to the legs of bees. In the nest, they eat bee eggs and take their place by continuing to eat nectar and pollen brought by worker bees. ²⁾

Rhinos are not among the even-toed ungulates. Other odd-toed ungulates include equids and tapirs. ³⁾

The hammer-headed fruit bat (Hypsignathus monstrosus) is a species of bat in the red-footed family. The largest bat of Africa. The taxon was first described by H. Allen in 1861. The big-headed bat is found in central Africa. ⁴⁾

English naturalist John Ray described some 17,000 plant species in the 17th century. He is credited with making an attempt at the scientific systematics of plants. We owe to him, among others, the division into monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants and the first definition of species.
