The name Beijing first appeared in 1403 during the Ming Dynasty, and it means The North Capital. It consists of two Chinese signs: Bei 北 (north), and Jing 京 (capital). 2).
Before being called The North Capital, Beijing changed its name 15 times! It was called Jicheng (which means the City of Ji), Dadu (which means Great Capital) and Beiping, which means Central Peace.3).
