When Roiland began editing the audio for this, he fell in love with the voices he'd done for the two characters and decided to abandon his protest in order to further develop the characters, eventually transforming them into Rick and Morty.5)

Many fans of the show think it is based in the same universe as Alex Hirsch's animated series Gravity Falls. Hirsch and Roiland shared a Disney workstation and agreed to refer to each other. During the pursuit sequence, as Rick creates a slew of portals to escape his pursuers, a pen, notebook, and cup emerge from one of them. Stan loses these goods through a portal in Gravity Falls.29)
