Ramadan

No eating

During Ramadan, no one is allowed to eat during the day. This prohibition applies to everyone without exception, even tourists. If you break it, you can end up in prison. As a reminder - Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, which is 12th April to 11th May in 2021.1)

So when is it?

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. When the crescent moon is visible after the new moon, Ramadan begins and ends. Due to geographical location, the start of Ramadan can vary around the world. Ramadan moves forward 10-11 days each year and thus “credits” different seasons. 2)

Two Ramadans

In 2030 there will be two Ramadans. One in January and the second one in December. 3)

What if the sun never sets

When you can't fast

It is not permissible to fast during important Islamic holidays - then you should rejoice and celebrate. This applies, for example, to the 3-day festival celebrated at the end of Ramadan. The same applies to the 4-day festival of sacrifice, the most important holiday for Muslims, which falls during the pilgrimage to Mecca. 5)
