Asterix

The “ix” suffixes in the comic books about the adventures of Asterix are modeled on the names of Gallic chieftains, such as Verincetorix or Ambiorix. However, the suffix “rix” meant “king” and was reserved for a chieftain; it was not found in the names of simple folk. 1)

Christopher Caldwell, an American journalist, called Lucy van Pelt from Peanuts the most terrifying character in comic book history - and the phrase was widely applauded. She was a combination of complacency, superficiality, and unceremoniousness who always stood her ground. 2)

Wally

Scott Adams, the creator of “Dilbert,” explained that the inspiration for the character of Wally came from his co-worker at Pacific Bell, who was given a sizable stipend intended for the company's lowest paid employees. This gave him an incentive to work poorly in order to avoid a raise. 3)

The Addams Family first appeared as characters in comic strips by Charles Addams. They were printed in the New York Times from 1938 until the Addams' death in 1988. 4)

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a manga created by Kazuki Takahashi that is also a popular card game. The title Yu-gi-oh is a play on words in Japanese. “Yugi Oh” means “King of Games”, which is an alternate title in English. 5)
