Cacti resistance

The resistance of Cactaceae Juss (cacti) to lack of water depends on the size of the plant. The larger the cactus the more surface area it has to store water. 1)

Violet oil beetle

Violet oil beetle (Meloe violaceus) is an insect of the beetle order. Female violet oil beetles have a disproportionately large abdomen. Violet oil beetle is slow to move and is protected by a poisonous, oily liquid that is poured out when threatened. Violet oil larvae attach to the legs of bees. In the nest, they eat bee eggs and take their place by continuing to eat nectar and pollen brought by worker bees. 2)

Odd-toed ungulates

Rhinos are not among the even-toed ungulates. Other odd-toed ungulates include equids and tapirs. 3)

Hammer-headed fruit bat

The hammer-headed fruit bat (Hypsignathus monstrosus) is a species of bat in the red-footed family. The largest bat of Africa. The taxon was first described by H. Allen in 1861. The big-headed bat is found in central Africa. 4)

John Ray

English naturalist John Ray described some 17,000 plant species in the 17th century. He is credited with making an attempt at the scientific systematics of plants. We owe to him, among others, the division into monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants and the first definition of species. According to him, a species is a group of individuals from similar parents. His greatest work is Historia Generalis Plantarum. 5)

Sundew

The sundew is very often called an inconspicuous predator. Very often it only takes a moment of inattention for an insect to fall into a trap from which there is simply no way out. 6)

Carnivorous species

The real phenomenon is that as many as 700 species of carnivorous plants can be seen throughout the world. 7)

Kamikaze ants

There are kamikaze ants that live primarily in tropical forests. They have two glands within them that are responsible for producing and storing poison. 8)

Jumping fleas

Fleas owe their superb jumping ability to the fact that they have large amounts of chemicals in their bodies that greatly enhance their performance. 9)

Nicotine

Nicotine in the tobacco plant primarily takes care of repelling as well as poisoning insects. It is a deadly weapon for them. In other words, it is a very potent neurotoxin. 10)

Botulism

Botulinum, or botulism, is considered the most potent toxin. 11)

Mules

Not everyone knows that mules are nothing more than a mix between a male donkey and a female horse. Even more interesting is the fact that mules are infertile, but have a very important economic importance. 12)

Digesting bones

Hyenas are the only mammals that have such concentrated gastric juices that allow them to fully digest their bones. 13)

Human skeleton

The mass of the skeleton in an adult human makes up a total of about 20% of the total body mass. 14)

Sweat glands

More than 2.5 million sweat glands can be found in human skin, capable of producing up to a liter of sweat per day. 15)
